Leveling up in Final Fantasy XIV: ARR is pretty simple during the first 10 to 15 levels. During this time you’re going through all of the game’s tutorials and earning experience along the way. But once you reach level 15 you’re basically thrown out into the world of Eorzea completely on your own. And this is when leveling becomes much slower. Below is a fast leveling guide for FFXIV: ARR to help you out.
How to Level in FFXIV
There are quite a few ways you can earn XP and level up your character in A Realm Reborn. A few methods require that you play with a party but there are plenty of options for leveling if you just want to play solo, too. These include:
- Main Story Quests
- Quest Hubs
- Hunting Logs
Each of these things gives you a decent amount of experience. Some are repeatable, others aren’t. Below we talk about each of these leveling methods in more detail.

The main story is rather important for a couple reasons. First off, completing story quests does provide a nice chunk of XP that helps you level up quicker, especially in the first 10 to 20 levels. Secondly, during the beginning of the game it also opens up new things for your character to do such as dungeons and guildhests. Completing quests also gives you the ability to choose a job for your character and earn some OK gear to start with, too.
Next up are the secondary quests in the game. These are not story specific but rather tasks provided to you by NPCs that you can complete. These can only be completed once but are usually rather simple tasks that take little time to do and provide you with a decent bit of experience. In the very beginning of the game you’ll be given a few of these once you’re placed in your class’ starting area. These quests in the start of the game are typically mindless tasks such as finding little objects on the ground or talking to other NPCs. But these quests are also available at later levels as you’re exploring new cities and areas of Eorzea.
The first levequests you’ll come across are given in the 3 starting areas. In the Upper Decks of Limsa Lominsa you can speak to the levemete, T’mokkri, for a levequest. In the Steps of Nald area of Ul’dah players can talk to Eustace for a levequest. And in New Gridania players can speak with Gontrant for their first levequest.
A F.A.T.E (which stands for Full Active Time Event) is basically a dynamic event. These are random events that occur all over Eorzea and are one of the best ways to earn experience and level up in FFXIV: ARR. These events can consist of doing things like killing off mobs, collecting items to deliver to a NPC, and many other tasks. There will also be FATEs that require players to take down one of the Primals in-game.
FATE farming is one of the fastest and easiest ways to level up your character in any class. FATEs are easy to join (you just have to step into the area), respawn rather quickly, and, in most cases, several FATEs are grouped together in nearby areas making it easy to run back and forth to complete them.
Dungeons are one of the most fun and challenging ways to level up fast in A Realm Reborn. They are instanced areas that are chock full of mobs and powerful bosses. To access a dungeon you have to complete a quest and also be the required level for it. You also have to have a party of players to do a dungeon run (sorry, can’t solo these!).
As of right now there are 17 different dungeons that players can participate in. Each dungeon provides tons of valuable loot (usually in the form of mid to high level gear and other useful items) plus a ton of XP. Dungeons are also repeatable making them a very good source for experience, gil, and gear.
Hunting Logs are a set of tasks that require players to kill a certain number of creatures and beasts. The log provides players with the type of monster they need to kill, how many they need to kill, the location of the monster, and the total XP reward for completing the log.
Each of the war-based classes (arcanist, archer, conjurer, gladiator, lancer, marauder, pugilist, and thaumaturge) has its own hunting log. The log is separated into 5 ranks with each rank representing a difficulty (rank 5 being the highest difficulty). There are also unique hunting logs for each of the grand companies: Immortal Flames, Maelstrom, and Order of the Twin Adder. The grand company hunting logs give players grand company grant seals rather than XP, though.
Hunting logs are a great way to earn a lot of XP fast while playing solo.
Guildhests are quests that have to be completed by a party of players. Usually these consist of completing a small dungeon or completing a boss fight. Upon completion players receive a hefty sum of experience and gil. New guildhests are made available for players every 5 levels starting at level 10. Right now there are guildhests for players level 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35. The higher level you become the more difficult the quest is.
There are a ton of ways to level up in FFXIV: A Realm Reborn but the absolute fastest and easiest ways are by FATE farming and completing dungeons (from our experience). They provide the most XP. Dungeons are especially fun because you can play with a group of friends and also earn a lot of decent gear.
NOTE: We’ll be writing detailed guides for each of the methods above very soon. Those guides will be linked here once they are complete.
