FFXIV: ARR – Leatherworker Crafting Guide – Leatherworking 101

About Leatherworking in FFXIV: ARR

Leatherworkers are found in countless games (such as Guild Wars 2 and World of Warcraft) but only in A Realm Reborn is it an entire class on its own. Through this craft players can put together various armor pieces using the furs, hides, or pelts obtained from different creatures in the world of Eorzea. This class can make armor for a wide variety of roles including Archers, Lancers, Pugilists, and crafting gear, too.

On top of armor Leatherworking can also produce a few different other items. These include:

  • Hand to Hand Weapons
  • Shields
  • Rings
  • Necklaces

There are several materials these crafters can work with including leather, raptor, boar, and other animal-based mats.

In order to become a Leatherworker players will need to visit Atelier Fen-Yll which is the Leathworker’s Guild found in New Gridania. Once there you’ll want to speak with Randall, the guild receptionist to get started. As with any other craft you must be level 10 in your base class before taking on the crafting role.

Leveling Up in Weaving

In order to fly through levels as a Weaver you’ll have to swap out the item recipes you’re using to craft every 6 to 10 levels. Why? Because it’ll help you earn more experience faster for your crafter. Once you hit a certain milestones the lower-level items give out less and less XP. Which is why you need to upgrade to level faster. For a full Weaving leveling guide you’ll want to follow the steps provided in this ultimate FF14 ARR guide – it contains complete guides to every crafting & gathering class (along with all other classes, period), gives out hot tips for getting the most ridiculously powerful gear available, and a lot more.

Leatherworker Quests

From the moment you pick up the Leatherworking craft all the way through level 50 of the class you’ll be completing a variety of quests that are given to you by the associated crafting guild. These quests typically send you out to craft a variety of items within the Leatherworker’s abilities. As you complete them you’ll report back to the guildmaster who will then give you some experience for the craft, some money, a few crafting mats, and other items.

Here is the full list of Leatherworker quests:

  • Way of the Leatherworker (level 1)
  • My First Head Knife (level 1)
  • A Test of Technique (level 5)
  • Geva’s Gambit (level 10)
  • Working Hells for Leather (level 15)
  • Aldgoat Everything (level 20)
  • Skin in the Game (level 25)
  • Toadskins of the Father (level 30)
  • Lead by Example (level 35)
  • Brand Loyalty (level 40)
  • Dissension in the Ranks (level 45)
  • Accept No Imitations (level 50)

All of the aforementioned quests are given to you by the guildmaster, Geva, except for the first one. Your first Leatherworker quest will be assigned to you by Randall, the receptionist of Atelier Fen-Yll.

Leatherworker Skills

Each crafting class has its own set of actions that it can perform. Most are related to the actual crafting process (called synthesis) or improving the durability of the items you’ll make during your Leatherworking. But there are a few that are unique to the craft. Here is the full list of actions / skills that are available to players that become a Leatherworker:

Leatherworker Crafting Gear

We’ve mentioned this in every other crafting guide we’ve made (for classes like the Alchemist, Armorsmith, Blacksmith, and Culinarian) but we’ll say it again…. keep up with your crafting gear as you make your way through the various levels of Leatherworking. It’s important. Upgrade your armor & tools every so often so you get better and better bonuses toward your crafting.

The best items to get will give your character boosts to the Craftmanship and Control stats. These attributes heavily affect the amount of progress you make with each successful attempt of synthesis and also contribute to the durability and overall quality of any items you might make (such as leather armor, weapons, shields, or whatever else).

NOTE: The FFXIV Masters team is hard at work on a complete Leatherworking leveling guide and recipes list to help everyone out. We will list it here as soon as it’s done!
